Eduroam (education roaming) is a secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. Eduroam allows students, researchers, and staff from participating institutions to obtain Internet connectivity across participating campuses on their devices.
HWS provides you with an HWS e-mail account which is accessible from most devices, browsers, and e-mail clients. Distribution lists and listserv discussion lists provide faculty and staff with more options, consistency, and clarity in communication to specific groups.
HWS provides multiple ways for students, faculty, and staff to store and collaborate on files.
The HWS campus provides three for students, staff, faculty, and a public network for the community and certain devices (gaming consoles, smart TVs, other smart devices).
Emergency Assistance Stations are positioned across campus with a red HELP button and, in most cases, a blue light. These devices are both free standing and mounted on buildings. By pressing the red HELP button you will be automatically connected to Campus Safety's Emergency Line so they can provide assistance for any emergency needs.
HWS provides free TV streaming through SpectrumU. Students and employees can access up to 80 TV Channel apps, such as popular entertainment, international, and sports channels (see below) using your HWS credentials. Along with live TV, SpectrumU offers a sizeable on-demand library with previous episodes, full series, and hit movies when you watch on campus. You can also record up to 20 shows and watch them anytime using cloud DVR for on-campus viewing.
The HWS network can be accessed off-campus by the Virtual Private Network (VPN), allowing access to the HWS network drives.
The anti-spam junk e-mail system prevents spam mail from clogging up your HWS e-mail inbox, which reduces your chance of clicking on malicious links or having a virus on your computer, while still allowing you to control what is filtered.
IT Services can provide supplemental technology for special events within the Colleges' community, such as public lectures, board meetings, and homecoming celebrations. Provide a detailed summary of your event and technology needs, and a technician will be in touch to assist you.
For students from other colleges that are taking classes with HWS professors and need access to Canvas or ArcGIS.
The online learning management system may be used by students, faculty and staff at the Colleges to facilitate file sharing, digital assignment distribution and submission, asynchronous communication, collaborative writing, and more.
IT Services provides a web-based survey tool that may be used by faculty and staff at the Colleges. This tool may be used for both simple and complex surveys, and offers an easy-to-use interface, various question types and options, user-friendly survey URLs, and mass e-mail and reporting capabilities.
Hobart and William Smith Colleges has access to ESRI ArcGIS Pro for desktop and associated resources for working with spatial data through a campus-wide education license. Both desktop software and online mapping tools are available, including the Community Analyst (demographic analysis) and Business Analyst (market research) tools. The ESRI software tool platform, ArcGIS, is a commercial GIS software tool that is widely used to display and examine spatial data. In addition to ESRI desktop tools, users can also share created data on the Internet using ArcServer and ArcGIS Online for Organizations software.
Each HWS network user has an account login ID and password, or HWS credentials. HWS credentials are used to access the HWS network and resources such as file share, e-mail, online learning management software, IT service requests, and much more.

IT Services offers a variety of equipment for loan to students, faculty, and staff to support the HWS curriculum and co-curricular activities. Faculty, students and staff may borrow equipment such as video cameras, tripods and headsets with microphones at the Help Desk.

Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) provides an additional layer of security when logging into HWS applications on a device for the first time. MFA verifies your identity by requiring additional credentials, like a PIN or answering a challenge question. Once the PIN is entered or the challenge questions are answered, MFA will remember your login on that device for 30 days. You will have to enter MFA credentials once every 30 days on a trusted device so that the security measure remains effective without too much inconvenience to you.

HWS users can view general software tutorials through Infobase Learning. IT Services also provides user support of DataCamp for tutorials specific to data analysis software.
Productivity suite applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint,and more for desktops, mobile devices, and browsers.
IT Services provides Web-based video conferencing tools for students, faculty and staff to conduct meetings, classes, etc. online.
HWS faculty and staff are provided with phones to use in their work spaces, including voicemail support.
Elevator phones are managed and maintained by Sodexo with an analog service provided by IT Services. These devices are used to communicate with Campus Safety in the event of a need by a user of the elevator. IT Services provides an analog service to the elevators.
Faculty and staff are granted access to a non-credit bearing Canvas course site for managing groups of students, staff or faculty for administrative or other purposes. The course site is housed in a sub-set of the main Canvas system and is not connected to any Peoplesoft data feeds.
